What Is Chard?

The next time you go to the grocery store’s produce section, have a look around for some chard. It is a fabulous earthy green that many have seen, but not cooked with.

Whenever I buy chard, instead of just keeping it in the fridge, I go the extra step and store it in a plastic bag with paper towel. This greatly increasing the shelf life, and I can prepare them quickly in a few different ways:

  • Saute with garlic and butter
  • Saute and then add to cooked quinoa or rice
  • Deep-fry pieces for a great garnish or snack
  • Or just eat it raw

We found a fabulous video that explains what chard is and how to cook with it.

Welcome to Cookery Nation and my attempt to lend my voice to a growing movement supporting Canadian communities cope with the difficult time we find ourselves in. This is a revamp of a site that has been around for a number of years. The focus is very much a community building exercise where we all band together to help each other.
