Brown sugar is definitely my preferred sugar when baking and cooking sauces. It is rich and sweet and just adds that little something that white sugar doesn’t.
Buying brown sugar can be a luxury these days though. Once you know how to make it yourself, you can save money and still have this delicious option.
As an added bonus, I have found that homemade brown sugar does not harden like store bought. We have never had to worry about putting in apple skins or pieces of bread to keep it moist.

DIY Brown Sugar Recipe
| Servings | Prep Time | Cook Time |
|---|---|---|
| 433 grams | 7 -15 minutes | 0 |
Notes:
If you like richer tasting brown sugar, just add more molasses a little at a time.
INGREDIENTS
- 400 grams (2 Cups) white granulated sugar
- 43 grams (2 Tablespoons) Molasses
DIRECTIONS

Gather your ingredients.

Add sugar to mixing bowl and then add the molasses.

Begin mixing on slow speed so the sugar and molasses can come together. Increase speed to medium for about 2 minutes.

Scrape the bowl to remove any molasses stuck to the bowl. Turn mixer to HIGH and continue mixing until all of the molasses is mixed in. Depending on the humidity, this could take 10 minutes.

Once all of the molasses is mixed in and there are no clumps, you are done.

Store in a canister or glass jar with a lid.
